KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After lengthy delays, the Kalamazoo County Clerk’s Office will soon see much needed rennovations after funding was approved by local leaders.
The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners approved a $500,000 dollar contract with St. Joseph’s Roggaw Construction to complete the project. The company was chosen among five other bids by area contractors at the commission’s January 21st meeting.
County clerk Tim Snow says that he’s been pushing for the renovations for a number of years, and is excited to see the facility upgraded and multiple office consolidated. Snow has served in that position since 1997, and recently announced this month that he would not seek re-election in November.
The clerk’s office says that no taxpayer money will go toward the project, which is primarily being funded by the Register of Deeds Automation Fund.
Snow says the renovations are not expected to impact upcoming election like the Michigan presidential primary on March 10th. However, due to a temporary office move the clerk’s office hours are being adjusted to from 8:00 A.M. to noon, and 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Clerk staff will no be located in room 101 of the existing Kalamazoo County Administration building, with construction set to be complete between 60 and 90 days.
