KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Citizens in Kalamazoo are invited to participate in a survey meant to help better serve the elderly community.
The Older Adult Services Division of Kalamazoo County Government Health & Community Services Department (Area Agency on Aging IIIA) is conducting an Older Adult Community Needs Assessment for Kalamazoo County.
Officials say that the purpose is to “evaluate services and programming in order to address the needs of older adults with the greatest social and economic need.”
Data collected through the survey will be used to determine programmatic planning for state, federal, and local funding.
“Due to the evolving needs of older adults living independently in our community, the Direct feedback from Kalamazoo County residents is critical to how we serve our community in the future. Older Adult Services Director of Area Agency on Aging Region IIIA Samantha Carlson said. “The information from this report will directly impact expansion and creation of services for older adults in our community with local, state, and federal funding.”
The agency says that elderly services include, but are not limited to, the following:
- access to information and resources
- coordination of care through care management
- personal care in the home
- homemaking
- home safety and repair
- ramp access to the home
- personal medical response systems
- technology
- respite care
- adult day care
- caregiver support
- counseling
- transportation
- money management
- outreach
- healthy living programs
- senior center access
- elder abuse prevention
- access to affordable dental, vision, and hearing services,
- navigating insurance
All citizens of Kalamazoo county are invited to participate in the survey.

- Officials say that during the February 6 meeting, community members can meet with AAA staff to discuss services and complete surveys online or paper forms.
The survey can also be accessed online at www.kalcounty.com/hcs/aaa/ and on the Kalamazoo County Government’s main page www.kalcounty.com.
Paper surveys are also available to pick up in person at locations listed on www.kalcounty.com/hcs/aaa/. They can be returned to Health & Community Services Department or partner locations.
