KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Area authorities are asking for help after a man broke into several vehicles during a fitness camp this past weekend.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the break-ins happened between 8 and 9 A.M. on Saturday, February 1st, during the first session of the annual Borgess Run Camp.
During the event, participants noticed several vehicles with broken windows and items stolen from the inside. Responding public safety officers reported that a total of seven vehicles had windows smashed or were broken into during the session.
On Tuesday morning, officers released surveillance footage from the scene which appears to show the suspect and the car he drove in.
The person sought by police is seen wearing a grey athletic jacket with black sleeves, a black baseball hat, and jeans. Their car is described as a silver sedan from an unspecified carmaker.
As of now police are not releasing any other additional information regarding the suspect.
The winter months are prime time for car theft and break-ins, with many drivers leaving vehicles unlocked as they warm up or in unusual spots due to winter weather. The Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times and make sure any valuables are out of sight.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect or thefts is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 337-8139.
