HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man is facing multiple charges after fleeing from a traffic stop and damaging property in Van Buren County.
Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over a Ford Explorer for a traffic violation around 12:24 P.M. on Wednesday, February 5th.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Chase Devon Porter, then sped off forcing deputies to pursue him as he traveled through Hartford and Keeler Townships.
Police tracked the vehicle after it entered a corn field near 68th Avenue and 62nd Street, followed by a horse pasture until it eventually turned into a yard and crashed behind a house.
Porter left the vehicle and ran into the home, and a 26 year-old female passenger was taken into custody after attempting to resist a deputy.
Sheriff’s deputies were able to surround the perimeter of the house with the help of the Hartford Police Department and Michigan State Police. Porter eventually agreed to surrender himself into custody and left the home without incident.
The Van Buren County Narcotics Unit conducted a search of the property with the permission of the homeowner, who knew the suspect. Investigators were able to seize several quatitites of methamphetamine packaged in bags, as well as related drug paraphernalia.
The unnamed female suspect who traveled with Porter notified police that during the chase she has ingested multiple grams of meth, and was concerned for her safety. An ambulance later transported her from the scene to a hospital for treatment.
Her current condition is unknown, but the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is saying that charges are expected to be sought at a later date and time.
Chase Porter is being lodged in the Van Buren County jail on multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding an officer, resisting and obstructing, posserssion of Methamphetamine, and having an outstanding fugitive warrant.
