JACKSON COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Multiple bridge and ramp projects that have impacted traffic on I-94 are expected to an end soon according to transportation officials.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is saying that the $110 million dollar I-94 redevelopment plan in Jackson County is reaching final stages in some parts, with a few projects already near-completion.
Ongoing work is continuing into the summer months for the westbound I-94 bridge over the Grand River, and a new westbound on-ramp from Cooper Street to the highway in Jackson.
The construction is part of the department’s five-year-plan for the Jackson area, which has been intersected by the stretch of interstate since first being built in 1960.
Starting in 2018, MDOT began work on several projects in the county including reconstructing 1.4 miles of freeway between Lansing Avenue and Elm Road, and resurfacing nearly 4 miles of roadway between Lansing Avenue and M-60.
The previous I-94 route over the Grand River only included one bridge, but is now being redesigned to utilize an additional bridge for traffic going in both directions.
In Jackson County MDOT officials are expecting that the only other projects to begin in 2020 will be the replacement of two M-60 bridges over I-94
