BERRIEN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After serving in the role for a half-decade, Berrien County’s corporate counsel has announced his resignation.
James McGovern delivered his resignation on Thursday, February 14th following a closed-door meeting attended by members of the county board of commissioners.
The resignation letter released by McGovern’s office said, “When circumstances arise that create conflicts between any or all of those duties, it is not an option to sacrifice one for the benefit of another.”
He went on to praise the work of county employees and officials, noting his time spent enjoying work in public service. The resignation letter said that the lawyer’s last day in the role would be Sunday, March 15th.
McGovern previously worked as an attorney at a private law firm in Chicago before being hired by Berrien County in 2015.
