GOBLES, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a suspect was arrested following a brief K-9 chase late Sunday night.
Just before midnight, K-9 handler Deputy Calhoun saw two individuals walking behind a store that was closed. Calhoun recognized one of the individuals to be on felony probation, confirming that he had a valid felony warrant for his arrest in Allegan County.
The suspect then fled on foot. Calhoun warned him to stop, or he would release K-9 unit Kuno. When the man continued to flee, Deputy Calhoun activated the automatic door release on his patrol car, deploying Kuno.
Kuno quickly apprehended the suspect, who is now lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on his outstanding warrant. The Sheriff’s Office is now seeking additional charges for Resisting and Obstructing law enforcement.
Police say the suspect did not sustain any injuries during the arrest.
