OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies are investigating two carjackings that occurred a day and a mile apart.
The first happened on KL Avenue near Drake Road in Oshtemo Township Saturday night when one suspect took the driver and his vehicle at gunpoint, picked up another suspect a few blocks away, and then robbed the driver of his wallet and cellphone before taking off in his vehicle.
The carjackers are described as two black men, about 5’8″, and 150 pounds and they were both wearing black hooded sweatshirts but no other details were released.
The second similar carjacking occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 5500 block of Redcoat Lane in Oshtemo where the victim was approached by two suspect who presented a handgun, took his wallet and cellphone and then fled in his vehicle.
One of the suspects is described as a thin black man in his mid 20’s, between 5’8”-5’10” tall, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and running pants. The second suspect is described as a thin white man in his early 20’s, 5’6”-5’8” in height, wearing a leopard print jacket, gray sweatpants, and a white cloth mask.
Sheriff James VanDyken tells us he believes the two incidents are connected but they’re continuing to investigate. Very little details have been released at this time.
