COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An armed teen is now in the Van Buren County Jail after he was found asleep at the wheel, parked in the roadway.
Deputies were dispatched to the 51000 block of County Road 384 near 50th Street in Columbia Township near Grand Junction around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday where they found the sleeping driver, a 19-year-old from Hudsonville.
After about 5 minutes first responders got the man to awake. They asked him multiple times to exit the vehicle so they could further investigate his condition and for the officer’s safety based on his behavior and actions, but he was still physically and verbally uncooperative.
That’s when a taser was deployed and the teen was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies search the suspect and later found a 25-caliber pistol in his front pocket.
He was arrested for resisting and obstructing arrest and for carrying a concealed weapon. No other details have been released at this time.
