CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A student is in custody after he brought a gun into a charter school near Battle Creek.
Police responded to reports of a 19-year-old male student who brought the loaded firearm to Calhoun Community High School in Springfield on Monday, February 24th.
After responding around 2:40 p.m., Calhoun County Sheriff deputies located the .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the student’s vehicle which they were holding without a license.
The school earlier dismissed classes after receiving reports of the student bringing their gun to the location. Police are investigating the incident but say they do not believe that anyone in the building was at immediate risk of danger.
The student was arrested following the search by deputies and is lodged in the Calhoun County Correctional Center on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and violating a weapon-free school zone.
