SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a parole absconder has been arrested in South Haven.
On February 25, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit observed a man identified as a wanted suspect at a South Haven gas station. The man was wanted for a parole violation.
The undercover unit contacted South Haven police for assistance. The 42-year-old suspect was pulled over shortly after.
The undercover narcotics unit helped with the traffic stop, during which another male was found to be in the back seat. Once asked to step out, a narcotics detective noticed a baggie of narcotics by his feet.
A further search of the vehicle revealed that the second suspect had attempted to hide narcotics inside a bag of chips. It was then discovered that this suspect had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. They were issued for failing to pay fines and cost for a different court case.
A female was in the front seat of the vehicle at the time of the arrest. She was released, and no charges are being brought against her at this time.
The driver and the backseat passenger were sent to the Van Buren County Jail while a report is filed.
