VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — City officials in Van Buren County are reporting that hundreds of homes are facing potential foreclosure due to outstanding debts.
The number of affected houses is said to be in the range of around 400. As a result, officials are encouraging citizens to work out a payment plan with the county before March 31.
Around $1,300,000 in outstanding taxes is owed in total by the affected property owners.
Officials say that property owners have successfully filed for payment plans in the past that have helped avoid a foreclosure. By working directly with the owners, it makes it easier to figure out a suitable plan.
In order to receive help, the county recommends filling out a Financial Hardship Plan in order to decide the next appropriate steps.
According to the Van Buren County website, Financial Hardship Plan forms must be filled out and turned in by March 16, 2020. Residents who plan to use this form should plan on meeting with the County Treasurer.
