SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An officer is in stable condition after their vehicle was hit by a driver that lost control on US-131.
Michigan State Police say that on Thursday, February 27th a trooper responded to a semi-truck that veered off of the southbound lanes of US-131 into the median in then into the northbound stretch near Schoolcraft.
When the trooper , arrived to check-in on the semi a pickup truck lost control, and moved into the median before crashing into his police cruiser which he was still inside of.
The officer, identified as Motor Carrier Officer Scott Silkworth, sustained non life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment. MSP reports that no other injuries resulted from the incident.
Michigan Department of Transportation officials said in a tweet that the northbound left lane was closed at 10:02 A.M., with traffic moving through the area within an hours time.
Drivers are being reminded that state law requires them to slow down by 10 mph and switch lanes if possible when emergency responders are on the road with their lights flashing.
