KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man arrested out-of-state is facing multiple charges for a fatal shooting at a Kalamazoo apartment complex.
Scott Kenneth Jones was arraigned on Wednesday, March 4th in Kalamazoo County District Court on charges of open murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and weapons felony firearm.
The suspect was on the run from law enforcement for months following the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Antonio Dewayne Reese-Manley on September 21st, 2019. Reese-Manley was shot dead at Fox Ridge Apartments in Kalamazoo following an encounter with Jones.
After being rushed to Bronson Methodist Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead from multiple gunshots to his torso.
A warrant for the alleged killer was issued on September 26, and it wasn’t until late January that he was located and apprehended in the Chicago area.
Jones was arrested during an early morning standoff at a suburban home in Montgomery, Illinois after receiving word of a domestic disturbance. Officers quickly came to believe that Jones, who had been suspected of hiding between the Chicago and Kalamazoo areas, might be inside.
Authorities tried to get the man out of the residence for nearly three hours until a SWAT team contacted him and took him into custody without incident.
Jones is due in court again on March 25th for a preliminary hearing where a judge will decide whether the suspect can face trial.
