BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Users of the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center will now be pre-screened for Coronavirus Disease 2019 upon entering the facility.
In a written statement, VA Public Affairs Officer Brian Pegouske said, “While the Centers for Disease Control still considers COVID-19 to be a low threat to the general American public, the Battle Creek VA Medical Center is paying special attention to it.”
Pegouske also said the pre-screening process may lengthen entry times.
The pre-screening will consist of these three questions:
- Do you have a fever or worsening cough or flu-like symptoms?
- Have you traveled to China, Japan, Italy, Iran or South Korea in the last 14 days?
- Have you been in close contact with someone, including health care workers, confirmed to have the coronavirus disease?
In addition, the Battle Creek Transit announced that its Fort Custer/VA 5W bus route will not travel into the VA Medical Center. Instead, the VA will provide shuttle services from a stop on Armstrong Road.
Veterans experiencing flu-like symptoms should contact the VA Medical Center at 1-269-966-5600 to receive virtual care before traveling to the facility to help reduce the risk.
