KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced that former Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell will be reappointed to Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Executive Committee.
Kalamazoo’s longest-serving Mayor stepped down last Fall, making way for now-Mayor David Anderson to take over the position. Hopewell has been involved in other projects since, as he is currently president and CEO of Mobile Health Resources, Inc.
Hopewell was originally appointed to the MEDC in April of 2019. He will be representing the private sector for a term commencing April 6, 2020 and expiring April 5, 2024.
Hopewell’s qualifications include a Master of Arts in Organizational Learning and Performance from Western Michigan University.
In an emailed statement, Whitmer provided the following description of the MEDC Executive Committee:
“The MEDC Executive Committee provides policy direction and guidance to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation regarding economic development program and initiatives, approves the MEDC corporate budget, and appoints the chief executive officer who administers all programs, funds, personnel, and all other administrative transactions of the MEDC. The MEDC Executive Committee supports the MEDC through governance, support to enable results-based action, and advocacy for the organization and economic development in Michigan. “
Hopewell is among six board members to be appointed or reappointed.
