PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A group of students in Parchment has been hitting the books in an effort to raise money for a new playground at their school.
A read-a-thon event kicked off recently at Northwood Elementary for National Reading Month.
I’m so excited for our students to read, read, read! I would love all of their hard work reading to pay for our Playground. – Northwood Elementary School Principal Lindsey Newton
The students each have their own individual online accounts at read-a-thon.com where people can donate money while the students complete sessions to reach various goals of time spent reading. As of Wednesday morning, the students had raised nearly $1,600 to go toward the new playground equipment.
