BERRIEN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In response to Governor Whitmer’s order to shut down area restaurants and other businesses, Berrien County officials are encouraging citizens to participate in business locally.
The Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber has launched a new campaign meant to support local businesses during the coronavirus outbreak.
The campaign, known officially as Buy Local Berrien!, comes in the form of a Facebook group for locals. It also features a #buylocalberrien hashtag, both of which are meant to boost local businesses’ ability to share any services or promotions to the community.
Officials say that any postings made on this Facebook page will also be featured on the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber’s website.
“While crucial to slow the spread of the virus, it’s undeniable that our small businesses are hurting from social distancing policies being implemented and events being cancelled,” said Arthur Havlicek, President & CEO of the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber. “Our hope with Buy Local Berrien! is to inspire the community to rally behind our local businesses and share the many safe and creative ways we can still support and bring revenue in for them.”
Local residents can engage with the campaign by participating in the following tactics:
- Use the #BuyLocalBerrien hashtag;
- Share the Buy Local Berrien! Facebook Group;
- Tag a local business below in need of some extra help right now; and
- Share any services, needs, or promotions that you or a business you know is looking for help getting the word out about.
Residents can also help small businesses through these additional methods:
- Buying from their website, Instagram, Facebook, Etsy page, etc;
- Buying a gift card from any local business or restaurant that offers one; and
- Ordering takeout or curbside pickup from local restaurants or shops that offer it.
“Our Chamber’s goal is to ensure the health of employees and continued, safe operation of business in here Southwest Michigan,” Havlicek said. “Our services are available to any business that needs them throughout this outbreak.”
