KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — There is still a dire need for medical supplies across the state and the community at Western Michigan University is stepping in to help.
Faculty and students from multiple departments collected personal protective equipment, disinfectant chemicals, and other essential items from university laboratories to donate to WMU’s Sindecuse Health Center.
“These supplies are important to help protect the health care providers as well as to help prevent the spread of disease,” says Jessica Slates, director of nursing at Sindecuse.
According to WMU, The donated equipment will be used at the clinic to treat students, faculty, and staff and any leftover supplies will be donated to other local facilities.
Dr. John Spitsbergen, chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, donated items from his department. He says, “Everyone I talk to feels like we are living through some sort of science fiction movie. Unfortunately, with this movie you can’t just change the channel, and each time you tune in, it just gets more frightening. We all want to do whatever we can to help.”
However, Sindecuse is still in need of gowns, gloves, hand sanitizer, masks, face shields and Lysol. Those looking to donate can find more information on WMU’s website.
