KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo resident is dead after a firearm was negligently discharged inside of a vehicle.
It happened around 4:45 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Jackson Street near Russell Street in the Edison Neighborhood.
When public safety officers arrived they located the 42-year-old victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. According to the press release, the woman was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
After further investigating, authorities say a 24-year-old man, who knew the victim, negligently discharged the firearm inside the vehicle.
It’s still unclear what led up to the shooting. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail where he awaits arraignment.
