PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Lane closures will continue until next week in Parchment, as crews work to remove lead service lines from the city’s water system.
The northbound lanes of Riverview Drive will be closed between Glenguile Street and East G Avenue beginning April 1st through April 8th.
Posted traffic detours will direct drivers to use Mt. Olivet Road to pass through the area during the period. Northbound Riverview Drive will be closed to vehicles but pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to pass through.
The City of Kalamazoo operates the water system used in Parchment and is working with that city’s government to remove all existing lead water service lines by April 13th.
After widespread PFAS contamination was discovered in Parchment’s municipal water system, city leaders agreed to sell their water department to Kalamazoo in 2019.
