BANGOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a male suspect on several weapons charges, as well as Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order.
Just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Bangor Police Department received a call from a woman asking for help regarding an unknown circumstance, requesting an officer.
Since the residence was outside of their jurisdiction, Bangor police notified Van Buren Central Dispatch, who proceeded to send deputies to the location.
Upon arrival, a male suspect was seen fleeing the area. The suspect was ordered to stop and complied, but appeared to have hid an object before returning to the deputies.
When questioned about what he hid, the man fled on foot again. A perimeter was set up and a K9 unit was utilized to track the suspect. He was later found about a mile away hiding underneath some construction equipment.
Upon returning to the area where he was first encountered, deputies located a bolt action 410 shotgun stashed in some bushes.
The suspect was questioned about the shotgun and admitted to having it prior to officer contact and hiding it in the bushes. His reasoning for having the gun is uncertain.
The suspect is described as a 35-year-old man from Coloma and is facing the following charges:
