BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Battle Creek have arrested one woman and are searching for another for a crab leg theft totaling $700.
Earlier this week, the Battle Creek Enquirer reported that police were called to the Horrocks store at 235 Capital Ave. S.W. just before 6:30 p.m Saturday.
Police say that the two women had two children with them. The crab legs were placed in the shopping cart and one of the children were placed over them. The suspects then left the store.
Police were able to identify one suspect from surveillance cameras. They later discovered that she had posted about the theft on social media, including photos of herself inside various stores like Horrocks.
Police went to her home, but a man at the residence said she wasn’t there at the time. During this visit, another civilian arrived, who said they were there to purchase crab legs from the suspect. She was turned away by responding officers.
Police later identified the vehicle used in the theft and were able to find the suspect. She admitted to the theft. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, she was out of work and had no money. Selling stolen crab legs was a means to make money for herself and the other suspect.
She has since been jailed. At this time, the other suspect, identified as a 27-year-old woman, is being sought for arrest.
