BENTON HARBOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officers are searching for the suspects behind a drive-by shooting that sent a Benton Harbor to the hospital.
The Benton Township Police Department says that the 46-year-old victim was walking Wednesday night along Highland Avenue near Plum Court when he was hit by a grazing bullet near his right ankle and shin.
Officers arrived at Blossom Acres Housing Complex where they found the man around 9:20 p.m. suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
He told authorities that he was earlier walking on Highland Avenue when a vehicle turned around and approached his direction. A man then pulled out a gun and fired one time at him from the back seat of the car before the driver quickly sped off.
Both suspects were described by the suspect as black males. Its currently unclear whether the victim and suspects knew each other prior to the incident.
After making contact with police the victim was transported to Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital to be treated for his injuries
The police department said in a released statement that they have not yet identified the suspects, and that the incident is subject to an ongoing investigation.
