COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities say that they are pressing charges for a stabbing that took place along the freeway in Comstock Township.
It happened around 4 p.m. Sunday on westbound I-94 near the I-94 Business Loop exit.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies were first called to a personal injury accident but later learned that a suspect had stabbed at least one person and was attempting to steal a semi truck.
The suspect was taken into custody and then transported to the hospital for self-inflicted injuries. They were last reported in critical condition.
The victim was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office authorized criminal charges against the suspect, including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and motor vehicle theft.
A release by the sheriff’s office says that due to the suspect’s current medical condition no arraignment has yet taken place.
No names have been released at this time and the incident is still under investigation.
Deputies were assisted by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, and the Michigan Department of Natural resources.
Westbound I-94 at 35th Street was shut down for about an hour after the stabbing.
