KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Expo Center is announcing free campsites to Kalamazoo County first responders and healthcare professionals leading the fight amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We are grateful for the incredible efforts by these individuals in our community and are looking forward to providing a safe option for our first responders and healthcare professionals that are working so hard to fight this disease,” Parks & Expo Center Director David Rachowicz said in a statement. “This provides a place for these individuals who don’t want to go home and put their families in jeopardy.”
The idea is to give these workers a place to stay between shifts, as many are self-quarantining away from home to reduce exposure risk to their families.
Workers who qualify include nurses, doctors, firefighters, police and emergency medical providers. Campsites will be available beginning Wednesday, April 15.
“I continue to be inspired by the sacrifice and dedication of our first responders and medical professionals who are on the front lines battling COVID-19 across our community every day,” Kalamazoo County Administrator Tracie Moored said. “This is another way Kalamazoo County Government can lend support and encouragement to help during this public health crisis.”

A valid ID and/or proof of employment will be required to secure a campsite at no charge. The campground remains closed to all other campers.
