CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a driver after their tire popped on Interstate 69.
State troopers from the Michigan State Police Marshall Post responded to a single-car crash on Monday around 4:40 p.m. on I-69 in Fredonia Township.
MSP says the single-car crash involved a flat-bed tow truck that was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-69 when a tire popped, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and roll over multiple times into a ditch.
The driver was the only person involved in the incident and has been identified as a 36-year-old Ali O Mahamat from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Southbound I-69 near F Drive South was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the scene and cleared debris.
A further investigation is being done to determine the exact cause of the death of the driver.
