KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A bridge in Kalamazoo’s Westnedge Hill neighborhood has been reopened to traffic following repairs to the structure.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Works initially announced on March 9th that the Inkster Avenue bridge over Bronson Boulevard would be closed indefinitely to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
That decision came after city officials found several damaged beams supporting the bridge that were in need of repair during a routine inspection. At the time Public Services Director James Baker said that despite the damage, the bridge was in relatively good shape.
Officials closed the bridge after Baker consulted with city engineers about the best course of action.
On Tuesday at 4 p.m. the bridge reopened to the public after a nearly two-month period.
The bridge is partially wooden and was last closed down in 2015 after planks supporting the roadway sustained damage.
