KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Consumers Energy Foundation has announced thousands of dollars in funding grants for small businesses in the Kalamazoo area.
The $200,000 micro-grant program focuses on businesses owned by women and people of color. Grants will also go toward businesses that have struggled to access federal and state relief. Funding will be distributed to nine community organizations which will administer the program.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak began Consumers Energy has raised $1.8 million in donations across the state, with the money going toward supporting small businesses, the Food Bank Council of Michigan, and other area non-profits.
“Consumers Energy is committed to helping Michigan’s small business community succeed now, more than ever. We are making an investment in our communities, business owners, workers and their families, and a commitment to help power through together,” said Brandon Hofmeister, president of the Consumers Energy Foundation in a released statement.
