KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A teen is in the Kalamazoo County Jail after leading officers on a foot chase that ended, thanks to the tracking work of a Kalamazoo Public Safety K9.
Officers attempted to stop a speeding Chrysler 300 on North Westnedge Avenue near Florence Street on the city’s Northside around midnight on Saturday but the driver continued and officers decided not to pursue the chase.
Two minutes later, authorities spotted the vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Prairie Avenue off of Alamo Avenue and the suspect jumped out and ran through Fairmount Park and into the woods toward Alamo Avenue. A discarded stolen pistol was recovered during the foot chase.
Officers launched K9 Echo and the suspect was quickly located hiding in a garage in the 1400 block of Alamo and was taken into custody.
The 17-year-old Kalamazoo resident is now facing charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and several weapons charges.
