KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man killed during a shooting on the city of Kalamazoo’s northside has been identified by authorities.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that 23-year-old Travontae Brown was the victim in a fatal shooting that took place on the 1400 block of Princeton Avenue around 1:10 p.m. May 14th.
Brown was hit by gunfire and could be seen laying on the ground when officers arrived. EMT crew members and officers tried to revive the man but he was later pronounced dead after arriving at Ascension Borgess Hospital.
A 28-year-old man was also shot and injured during the incident, having been found by responding officers at a nearby location on the 1400 block of North Westnedge Avenue. He was transported to Bronson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities have not identified the second victim and it is unclear how he is related to the shooting. Both of the individuals have been described as Kalamazoo residents, and investigators believe that the shooting incident originally began on Princeton Avenue.
