KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has announced that one of its long-time K-9 units, Nero, has officially entered retirement as of last weekend.
This comes as Nero’s handler, Kelly Pittelkow, was also promoted to the position of Sergeant.
911 dispatchers made a statement at the end of Nero’s shift, which can be viewed online here.
“K-9 Nero, thank you for your years of hard work and making sure your handler came home safe every night,” dispatchers said. “K-9 Nero, we wish you a long and happy retirement.”
K-9 Nero will enjoy retirement living at home with Sergeant Pittelkow.
Some of Nero’s recent escapades have involved tracking an armed robbery suspect, finding a missing purse that had previously been snatched, locating a suspect hiding on top of a roof, and more.
