PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The city of Portage is lifting restrictions on certain park activities after Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order this week allowing small gatherings of 10 or fewer people.
Portage park amenities reopened include:
- Pickle Ball Courts
- Tennis Courts
- South Westnedge Dog Park (with a maximum of ten people)
- South Westnedge Skate Park (with a maximum of ten people)
Ramona Park Beach is expected to open on Friday, May 29th and the Portage Farmers Market is scheduled to open for the season on June 7th.
Adult softball and pickleball leagues are scheduled to begin this year during the week of June 1st.
The Portage city government said in a press release that all of the aforementioned dates may be subject to change based on the governor’s stay-at-home order.
City officials are warning visitors that while the use of allowable facilities is encouraged, social distancing rules still apply.
Park patrons are asked to remain at least six feet from one another, wash and sanitize hands frequently, and wear a face covering.
“While Governor Whitmer has eased certain restrictions, we must be vigilant by continuing to protect each other from COVID-19,” said City Manager Joe LaMargo.
Despite some activities reopening others will remain closed for the time being due to the pandemic.
The following amenities will remain closed to the public at Portage parks:
- Basketball Courts
- Pavilions/ Picnic Tables
- Playground Equipment
- Inline Hockey Rinks
- Restrooms
