CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is reporting two different crashes over the weekend, both of which caused injuries to some involved.
Around 7 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a single vehicle crash that occurred near the intersection of Cassopolis Road and Mt. Zion Street in Calvin Township. A driver was traveling southbound on Cassopolis Road and lost control of their vehicle.
As a result, the vehicle crashed into a parked truck and trailer. The driver, identified as a 20-year-old Elkhart resident, was transferred to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries sustained.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, but police say drugs and/or alcohol was a factor in the crash. Police did not specify which, and the crash remains under investigation at this time.
A second weekend crash was then reported on Sunday, May 24. Around 11 a.m., police responded to the intersection of M-51 and Dewey Lake Street in Silver Creek Township.
Police say that a driver traveling westbound on Dewey Lake Road failed to yield to traffic on M-51 and crashed into a vehicle traveling southbound.
The southbound vehicle was driven by a 76-year-old Dowagiac resident, while the westbound vehicle was driven by a 23-year-old resident of Monee, IL. The westbound vehicle also contained a 25-year-old passenger who was transported to Lakeland St. Joseph for injuries sustained in the crash.
Seat belts were worn in this incident as well, and drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors.
