SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities in Calhoun County are investigating a vehicle assault Thursday night in which a pizza delivery driver struck a pedestrian at a high rate of speed.
Just after 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to the Avenue A Mobile Home Park in Springfield. Calls to 9-1-1 indicated that after the pizza delivery driver struck a pedestrian with their vehicle, they then struck multiple other vehicles in the parking lot of the mobile home park.
Officials said earlier that evening, the driver had been driving very fast through the same area. Bystanders had called the restaurant the driver was delivering for to complain. The driver returned a short time later and accelerated toward a group of people outside.
A 27-year-old Battle Creek man who was struck suffered serious injuries, but is expected to recover. The 42-year-old male driver from Battle Creek was arrested on felonious assault charges.
No names have been released.
