KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The YMCA of Kalamazoo is now accepting participant applications for its upcoming virtual 5k event in June.
“This event will benefit Ys across Michigan as they step up to ‘walk the talk’ of our mission – providing meals for families in need, providing child care for essential workers and offering virtual exercise programs,” officials said in a statement. “Your participation in this event will support YMCAs as they continue to serve nearly 20,000 meals per day, care for 1,100 children of essential workers and offer 50 different opportunities for safe at-home virtual exercise programs.”
Runners (or walkers) can participate from any location and can share their experience online using the hashtag #MIYMCA. The theme chosen this year is “MI Y, OUR Y,” and registered participants can support the Michigan YMCA of their choice through the entry fee.
In addition, participants will receive a t-shirt and commemorative finisher’s medal. Cost per entry is $35, and participants must register by May 31 for a guaranteed shirt and medal.
Additional details provided by the YMCA about the race can be viewed below:
- A virtual race is a ‘fun run’ that can be run or walked from any location you choose. You can run or walk on a road, trail, treadmill or track. Go at your own pace, timing is optional.
- Our event window is June 15th – June 30th. Complete your 5k anytime during that time frame and share your experience at #MIYMCA.
- Race Packet – T-shirts and participant medals are guaranteed for everyone who registers by May 31st. Packet pick up will be coordinated by your local YMCA. You will receive a notification directly from them to let you know how and when you can pick up your race packet (preferred). You may also opt to have your race packet mailed to you for an additional fee.
