KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One person is in the Kalamazoo County Jail after a traffic stop led to a foot chase and a discarded handgun on the city’s Northside.
Public Safety officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the 900 block of West North Street near Woodward Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after they received reports of speeding in the area.
During this time authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a violation but the driver ran from the vehicle on foot and discarded a handgun which was recovered by officers.
Officers chased the suspect down and were able to catch the driver in the 1000 block of Nola Street near Staples Avenue.
The 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident was apprehended and booked into the county jail. The suspect awaits arraignment on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest.
