KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Some Western Michigan University students and alumni are pushing the school to bring back a staff member who was recently let go after 31 years with the school.
Student Eann Dixon has created a change.org petition calling for Sherrie Fuller to be re-hired.
The petition says Fuller recently lost her job as assistant director of multicultural affairs without advanced notice, and that she would go above and beyond for students, especially students of color. It goes on to say many students credit her with helping them stay in school and graduate.
The university says it cannot comment on why she was let go, but students say it was due to budget cuts. As of Sunday night, the petition had over 4,500 signatures.
Former student Monica Washington Padula says the former Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs provided support for students of color.
