ROSS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A swimmer is dead after he was struck by a boat on a Kalamazoo County lake.
First responders were called to the southwest end of Gull Lake in Ross Township around 1:45 p.m. Sunday after a report of a boating accident.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies say 18-year-old Jack William Mitchell from Richland Township was swimming in the lake when he was hit by a boat.
Mitchell was taken to shore and life-saving measures were attempted, but he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
WOOD-TV reports that the operator of the watercraft was taken into custody and was released after undergoing blood alcohol testing, but no other details have been released at this time.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department, Augusta-Ross Fire, LifeCare EMS, Michigan State Police and and Augusta Police all assisted in the response and recovery.
