KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A teen is in custody after observant community members reported an armed suspect in Kalamazoo’s Vine Neighborhood.
Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Davis Street near West Walnut Street around 1 a.m. Wednesday after residents contacted authorities saying that a person was inside a vehicle, loading a handgun, while handling large amounts of money.
Authorities located the vehicle and pulled it over due to a traffic violation and found that the driver was in possession of marijuana, packaging materials, a digital scale, about $1,000 dollars, and a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number.
The 19-year-old Kalamazoo resident was booked into the Kalamazoo County jail and awaits arraignment regarding multiple weapons charges and narcotics violations.
In a statement, KDPS thanked the community members “who play an instrumental role in the effort to address gun violence and other criminal activity.”
