PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Paw Paw Post are currently investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Red Arrow Highway near 41st Street in Paw Paw Township.
The crash occurred on Thursday, February 11 around 11:30 a.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two vehicles were traveling Eastbound on Red Arrow Highway when the lead vehicle, a silver passenger car, attempted to make a U-turn in the middle of the roadway and was struck on the driver’s side front door by a trailing black passenger car.
The driver of the silver car, later identified as 81-year-old Thomas Makowski of Paw Paw, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Bronson Hospital.
The driver of the black car, later identified as a 44-year-old Kalamazoo man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, Paw Paw Fire Department, and VBEMS Ambulance.
Officials add that it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash. However, the crash remains under investigation at this time.
