KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department (TKPD) is announcing that two suspects have been arrested in an armed robbery case that occurred Tuesday.
The robbery occurred in the 2000 block of East Michigan Avenue.
The two suspects each allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money and property, and at least one of the suspects knew the victim. The suspects robbed the victim and then fled on foot.
Officers from the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Michigan State Police responded to the scene to assist in the search for the suspects.
Officers from the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department found the two suspects a short distance away and took them into custody without incident. The victim’s property and two handguns were recovered from the suspects at the scene.
A 20-year-old suspect was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on the following charges:
- Armed Robbery (a felony punishable by life in prison)
- Felony Firearm (a felony punishable up to 2 years in prison)
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon with Unlawful Intent (a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or $2,500)
- Felon in Possession a Firearm (a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or $5,000)
Additionally, a 16-year-old suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile home on the following charges:
- Armed Robbery (a felony punishable by life in prison)
- Felony Firearm (a felony punishable up to 2 years in prison)
All charges are being forwarded to Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
