KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo has issued additional maps and expanded the number of properties impacted by boil water advisories because of two water main breaks in commercial zones.
The first occurred on Burdick Street between Lake Street and Stockbridge Avenue, which has closed the street to traffic until repairs are made.
The second and more significant break occurred under one of the west bound lanes of West Main in the block just east of Drake Road. While lanes remain open, at peak traffic times, primarily for commuters headed west after work, there have been traffic back-up.
Both of them have resulted in Boil Water Advisories in nearby homes and businesses.
The initial advisory along West Main was issued for the north side of the street from Drake to Piccadilly, including the Penn Station Subs, the Coney Island, and the offices of a tax preparer and a State Farm Agent.
The new area includes two properties on the south side of West Main and a block of buildings that includes banks and several additional businesses that sell food, between Piccadilly and North Hampton, including the studios of Midwest Communications.
A boil water advisory has also been issued for sections of South Burdick, Stockbridge Lake and Balch. The City has now issued maps of the affected properties, which also happens to include the Offices of the Water Utility and City Public Works on Stockbridge.
It could be Tuesday or Wednesday before they get test results back.
