BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Fire officials in Battle Creek are blaming the careless burning of incense for a smoky fire at an apartment complex for low income seniors last evening.
They responded to the Cherry Hill Manor Apartments on Clay Street just after 7pm and found smoke coming from an apartment on the 8th floor. Once inside they found a mattress on fire in a bedroom.
The apartment was not occupied at the time.
The Fire Department dispatched six trucks and a car to the scene, not taking any chances. The fire was contained to that one room.
