KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public School officials are figuring out what’s the next step if the legislature doesn’t approve some kind of forgiveness bill on Snow Days.
Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice says their only option is to extend the school year into the summer, but he says they are waiting until they know how many days they will have to add.
Right now they have had to declare 11 snow days.
The state permits 6 snow days with an option for 3 more if they ask for a waiver, but even with those 9 KPS and many other school districts are still over.
Rice says they can’t add hours to the school day because of their calendar, which is something all schools in the county adopt before the school year.
School officials have a while before they must decide.
