BRADY TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The Erik Cross cold case death investigation is being referred to the Attorney General’s office for a review after local prosecutor Jeff Getting was asked to issue warrants by the Sheriff’s Department last year and has so far declined to do so.
At the time, the teenager’s death was treated as a hit and run fatality.
The 16-year-old was found dead by his father in a morning in June of 1983 in front of their Brady Township home near Vicksburg after Cross had walked from a graduation party the night before.
But friends and relatives organized years ago, calling themselves “Erik’s Army” and have been pressing to reopen the case.
They believe something much more sinister and intentional happened to Erik and that the hit and run was staged.
The request to refer the case to new Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office comes from both the Prosecutor and the Sheriff’s Department.
