KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Western Michigan University’s Women’s Track and Cross-country coach is now out of a job.
Kelly Lycan was fired on Thursday for “violating the terms of his contract” according to the news release from Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard.
The letter written to Lycan stated, “Upon further review of this specific situation and the overall health of your program, I have determined that an unhealthy culture exists and that your continued presence with the team would create a volatile environment.”
Lycan was the coach for the last 18 years and was suspended last week, just before his track team left for the MAC Championships.
According to his bio on WMU’s website, Lycan spent seven years as the top assistant at Ball State University before his time at Western.
