PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A despondent 18-year-old from Portage is being evaluated at a local hospital after he had to be talked down from a ledge Saturday afternoon.
Portage Public Safety was dispatched to the Oakland Drive overpass at I-94 at about 1:20 p.m. Saturday where the teen was threatening to jump into the traffic below.
Officers say he had climbed the chain link fence surrounding the cement bridge railing and was standing on a small ledge.
Eastbound traffic on the Interstate below was briefly rerouted and the overpass closed while two crisis negotiators from the Metro SWAT team talked him back to safety.
