KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Commissioners say it’s the biggest decision they will make this term.
Tuesday night they voted unanimously to abandon a proposal to build a new County Center Building on land next door to their current administration building, and instead will build a new Court House.
The $90-million project is the largest the County Board has ever tried.
Chair Julie Rogers says they need to set a budget cap to provide a guide to architects.
The original plan would have included space for both the courts and County Administration, but they can’t afford it.
Instead they will spend $8-million on deferred improvements at their current Administration Building on Kalamazoo Avenue and stay put.
