PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — The Portage City Council has set water utility rates for the upcoming fiscal year and for the second year in a row, homeowners will be paying less. How much less depends on how much they use.
Last night manager Larry Schaffer recommended the decreases, which are based on an independent study that sets the charges to match the cost of providing the service.
The reductions will save the typical homeowner about $25 over the next year.
Several Council members noted that it’s a much better situation than just a few years ago when rates went up double digits to address neglected infrastructure.
Portage Residents over 65 can request a 10% senior discount on their water bills at City Hall.
